A field guide, of sorts

The Kind of Chicago We Attract

Every city's speed dating crowd has its own personality. Here's what nineteen years of hosting in Chicago has taught us about the people who actually show up.

They stayed through the winters that matter

Anyone can love Chicago in July. Our daters have loved it in February too, the kind of cold that tests whether you actually want to be here or just happened to end up here. That resilience says something. People who choose to stay through the worst of it tend to bring the same commitment into how they date, they're not looking for the easy way out of a hard conversation either.

They have opinions, and they'll defend them

Deep dish or tavern-style. Cubs or Sox, and yes, some of our daters have strong feelings about that too. This is a city that doesn't do lukewarm opinions, and it shows up in our rooms. Our daters tend to know what they like, say so, and aren't afraid of a little friendly disagreement over the right way to make a beef sandwich.

They're done outsourcing chemistry to an algorithm

Most of our daters still have an app or two installed. But they've stopped treating it as their main strategy. They're tired of profiles that don't translate, matches that fizzle over text, and conversations that never actually turn into a night out. They show up to our events because they want the real thing: an actual conversation, in a real room, with someone they can read in person.

They set the trend rather than follow it

Our crowd is shaped in part by our venues, and our venues are shaped by the neighborhoods we host in. That tends to draw daters who already know what they like, confident enough to have opinions, curious enough to ask good questions, and genuinely interested in the person across the table instead of running through a mental checklist.

If any of this sounds like you, or like the kind of person you'd actually want to meet, that's not a coincidence. That's exactly who we built this for.
